The SEAT Leon is the 2015 Auto Express Compact Family Car of the Year, making it a hat-trick of wins for SEAT in the category while the flagship Cupra retains the title it won in 2014.
Steve Fowler, Auto Express Editor-in-Chief, said: “This hat-trick of wins against such talented opposition is testament to the all-round qualities of the Leon. It’s a clear winner as far as family car buyers are concerned, offering great value, bags of space, generous kit and superb quality. It knocks spots off of its rivals when it comes to looks, too – it’s a seriously stylish car.”
He had equally warm praise for the Leon CUPRA’s winning qualities, too: “A hot hatch has to be many things, but fun is top of the agenda and the Leon CUPRA delivers that by the bucketload. It’s brilliant on road and does have a sensible sideas well with family-friendly space, reasonable running costs and the sort of tech and quality you’d expect from a supercar rather than a hot hatch.”
The pannelists choice: Leon 1.2 TSI SE 5dr (From £17,700)
Auto Express says: There’s no bad engine in the Leon’s line-up, but we’d opt for the 1.2 TSI, as it’s the best of a very good bunch and delivers strong performance despite its small capacity. Five doors add extra practicality, while SE trim comes with lots of premium features.
