Seat Leon ST Cupra 280 Sets Estate Nurburgring Lap Record

The potent Seat Leon ST Cupra 280 has just set a new production car lap record around the Nurburgring Nordschleife for an estate.

The Leon ST Cupra 280 managed to lap the famous German circuit in a mere 7 minutes and 58.12 seconds. That puts the fast estate car above the likes of the 2007 Audi R8 V8 despite the Leon ST Cupra 280’s front wheel drive system. The 7:58.12 lap time is also 0.3 seconds faster than the hatchback variant which was once the fastest front-wheel drive production car around the Ring.

The Seat Leon ST Cupra 280 used in the record setting run was fitted with a six-speed manual transmission and the optional Performance Pack. A limited-slip differential is included in the pack alongside four-piston Brembo brake calipers, larger 370 mm front discs, 19-inch alloy wheels and semi-slick tyres. Behind the wheel was former World Touring Car Championship driver Jordi Gene.

Powering the car is of course a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine delivering a total of 276 hp between 5600 and 6500 rpm as well as 258 lb-ft of torque from a low 1700 to 5600 rpm.
