Volkswagen Golf ‘car of the year for 2009’
The Volkswagen Golf has been named car of the year by Wheels magazine.
In order to win the award, the vehicle impressed eight judges over an extensive week of testing and was chosen ahead of 56 other cars put forward by 16 manufacturers for the coveted prize.
Editor of the publication Ged Bulmer commented: “The Golf oozes sophistication, refinement and development - in an energetic package that comes with fundamentally good steering and balance. The turbo-charged, five-door hatch VW Golf range is outstanding.”
Judge and former editor Peter Robinson added that the balance and weighting of all controls in the vehicle are worthy of a BMW, while it was found to best in class for handling.
