A bit about the Volkswagen XL1
First unveiled at the Qatar Motor show, the Volkswagen XL1 makes use of pioneering techniques and an advanced plug-in hybrid drivetrain to make the XL1 the world’s most fuel-efficient car. Capable of returning 313 mpg on the combined cycle while emitting 21 g/km of CO2, the XL1 sets a new benchmark for vehicle efficiency.
In both its styling and packaging the XL1 draws on lessons learned from the L1 concept car. One of the key design features of the XL1 are the elegant scissor doors that hinge on the A-pillar. Efficiency plays a big part in the design of the XL1, with the profile honed in the wind tunnel resulting in a remarkable coefficient drag figure of 0.186.
