Once again, Honda has been named this year’s title sponsor of the 2021 FIA Formula One (F1) World Championship Japanese Grand Prix. The race will be held at Suzuka Grand Prix Circuit from October 8 – 10, 2021, after being postponed in 2020 due to Covid-19. Fittingly, the Suzuka Circuit is owned by Honda and was originally designed as a test track in 1962. It is best known for being just one of two FIA Grade 1 licensed tracks with a figure of eight layout, the other being the Fiorano Circuit.
“Honda is highly honoured that we will be the title sponsor of the Honda Japanese Grand Prix again at the traditional racetrack, Suzuka Circuit, as was the case in the 2018 season. We would like to thank all F1 fans and related parties and, through this sponsorship, show our gratitude to them” said Koji Watanabe, Chief Officer for Brand and Communication Operations at Honda Motor Co., Ltd.
Honda will continue working together with Red Bull Racing and Scuderia AlphaTauri to continue competing and achieving as many victories as possible in 2021. However, as the automobile industry transforms, Honda have decided to focus their attention on striving for carbon neutrality by 2050 as part of one of their environmental initiatives. Despite announcing that they are leaving Formula 1 entirely at the end of the 2021 season, Red Bull Racing will continue to use Honda’s hybrid technology for the cars’ power units until 2025.
