Mandatory MOT testing to return from 1 August.

As restrictions ease, testing is to be reintroduced.

Mandatory MOT Testing to Return in August

A 6-month exemption from MOT testing was granted to drivers earlier in March, which was due to the Coronavirus outbreak. The purpose of pausing the testing was to help minimise the spread of the virus.

Going forward, with the continued easing of restrictions, any vehicle (car, van or motorcycle) that is due an MOT test from the 1 August is now required to obtain a test certificate.

Please note that those who had an MOT due date before 1 August will continue to receive a 6-month exemption. It is still really important that all vehicles are kept in a roadworthy condition and are properly maintained.

Additionally, even if you are exempt from the legal requirement, you are able to voluntarily get your MOT completed sooner if you wish to.
