Motoring journalists had the chance to get behind the wheel of the most highly-anticipated new car of 2020 - the Volkswagen ID.3.
The Volkswagen Press and PR team, along with colleagues across the Volkswagen Group in Germany, worked hard to get high-profile media over to Wolfsburg to test-drive one of the most important models they have been missing out on.
The verdicts? It received glowing reviews.
Autocar's review begins by recognising the Volkswagen ID.3 as the most important new car built by the worlds biggest car maker in decades. Explaining how the all-electric ID. as a sub-brand is close enough to touch and that the 10 all-new, ground-up EV passenger cars that are due by 2025 will be unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show this September. They then went on to recap their own experience of the vehicle:
"having now driven one, I can tell you that it’ll be interesting for all sorts of reasons: for its all-round compactness, its rear-engined-ness, its clever packaging, its urban manoeuvrability, its zappy yet quiet performance, its cutting-edge instrumentation technology and its uncharacteristically (slightly) bold styling. There is, of course, also the small matter of being able to charge it up at home, run it entirely emissions free, and do your bit for the ‘road-to-zero’ carbon-cutting agenda."

“A well-balanced chassis setup, impressive range and a reasonable price wrapped up in a great looking package. Viewed from this point of view, the ID.3 truly delivers on its promise to become the Golf of the electric age.”
Auto Express then go onto explain how the arrival of the ID.3 heralds the beginning of what will be a transformation period not just for the Volkswagen brand but for the Volkswagen Group as a whole.
Top Gear complimented the ID.3 style of driving: "The ID3 ‘feels’ rear-wheel drive. This is a surprise, and a pleasant one. On the way out of a roundabout, the car squats down and you sense the it’s being propelled from the rear, while the steering’s uncorrupted. It feels well-balanced, and though the slim (but 20-inch-tall) tyres chirrup with protest, there’s plenty of grip."
Top Gears verdict was a positive one. They found the vehicle space efficient, nimble on the toes and tech-wise, on the ball. They believe the engineering behind the ID.3 is impressive with a trim level for everyone.
