The Volvo V40 repeats its victory in the aunnual Co-op Insurance Safest Used Car Awards for the third year in a row. The premium five-door family car was praised for its advanced safety aids and crash test rating.
The Volvo V40 with Driver Support Pack was voted the overall winner – as it also was in 2016 and 2017 – based on analysis of a wide range of used family cars, all of which must have a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating, CO2 emissions of 120g/km or lower, and be available on the second-hand market for £15,000 or less. The cars were then evaluated further on crash worthiness, including ratings for adult, child and pedestrian protection, and the availability of Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB).
The Driver Support Pack adds a range of advanced safety aids, including pedestrian and cyclist detection, adaptive cruise control and technology to warn you if there's a vehicle in your blind spot or if your car accidentally starts to leave its lane.
