TOYOTA NAMED TOP MANUFACTURER AND COROLLA BEST HYBRID IN AUTOCAR’S BRITAIN’S BEST CAR AWARDS

Toyota has achieved double success in the Autocar Britain’s Best Car Awards, being named Best Car Manufacturer and its British-built Corolla model honoured as Best Hybrid Car.

Revealing the best manufacturer award, Autocar declares: “Toyota has transformed itself into a maker of exciting, enthusiast-focused cars as well as dynamic everyday models.”

It also acknowledges the company’s “leading voice in the environmental conversation” with regard to future sustainable mobility and gives much credit for its current success to the leadership and vision of its president, Akio Toyoda.

“The impressive progress made by Toyota over the past decade has reached the point where it can be considered not only the world’s biggest car maker, but also the best,” it adds.

Announcing Corolla as Britain’s Best Hybrid Car – the honour shared jointly between its Hatchback and Touring Sports versions – Autocar reports: “Responsive, keen-handling and frugal, it’s a hybrid with as broad a spread of dynamic qualities as any conventional car.”

The award is all the more appropriate for Corolla as the model is built at Toyota’s Burnaston plant in Derbyshire and is powered by a hybrid engine produced at its Deeside factory in North Wales.

Toyota has enjoyed world leadership in hybrid electric technology for 20 years, a commitment that has delivered significant advances in cleaner and more fuel-efficient vehicles and ushered in new generations of zero emissions hydrogen fuel cell electric and battery electric models.

Autocar’s view is that Corolla represents all that’s best about Toyota today and signals its future direction. It highlights the dynamic benefits of the TNGA platform the car is built on and the quality of the hybrid electric powertrains, which give the car an involving performance and driving experience.

Agustín Martín, Toyota (GB) President and Managing Director, said: “It is a proud moment for us to receive these awards, which acknowledge both the quality of the hybrid cars we’re making here in Britain today, and our greater ambitions for helping create a sustainable future mobility society.”
