Mercedes-Benz have added a third electric SUV to its range: the Mercedes-Benz EQB. Unlike its rivals, this car has seven seats, four of which can be individually folded down to increase boot space, making it one of the most spacious and practical electric vehicles on the market.
Final performance has not yet been confirmed; however, it is thought that the EQB will have a 0-62mph time of around 6 seconds and a range of 260 miles, although we are promised more in the future. Mercedes-Benz haven’t revealed any firm details about the powertrain either, but we do know that there will be a choice between front or four-wheel drive and various power levels, with up to 66.5kWh of battery capacity and 270bhp of power.
The exterior is all about aerodynamic efficiency and style, with a blanked-out grille and smooth lines to reduce drag. The new EQB has multi-spoke alloys that come with a bi- or tri-colour finish, as well as LED tail lamps and roof rails.
The interior is similar to that of the Mercedes-Benz GLB; elegant and simple with MBUX infotainment displays dominating the dashboard as well as premium upholstery throughout. It’s packed with safety features too, such as the Active Lane Keeping Assist and Active Brake Assist, making motorway driving stress free. Pedestrian and cyclist alert are also included, along with a clever navigation system with electric intelligence. This calculates an optimal route, taking into account factors such as charging status, weather and traffic, as well as charging stops if necessary.
Mercedes-Benz is yet to confirm the release date of the Mercedes new EQB, however we expect it to go on sale in late 2021.
Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer of Daimler Group:
“With the all new EQB we have created an iconic electric SUV that takes the heritage of our boxy off-road vehicles and transforms this into the future. We combine the significant boxy silhouette with futuristic elements such as the black-panel front to create the extraordinary look of the vehicle.”
