Nature and light were the principal elements used in the design of the interior. The Scandinavian landscapes also inspired the C40, with their quiet atmospheres, light, and freedom of space. The calming effects of these landscapes is characterised by the interior of the car. Light and nature are strong elements of Scandinavian culture and were key features in the design process. A large, panoramic glass roof enhances the airiness of the cabin, making the most of the short winter days while blurring the line between outside and inside during brighter summer nights.
Volvo strive to use smart, innovative and lightweight materials that are sustainable. The topography trim panels are made of partly recycled plastic, while the carpet is made of 100% recycled PET plastic bottles.
The C40 features Volvo’s first leather-free interior, with one upholstery option containing naturally renewable wool fibres, and a second option using a combination of suede textile (also made of recycled plastic) and micro-tech material. Bio-based materials are more attractive and innovative than leather.
