In general, we’re not very adventurous with car colours in the UK. For the second year running, grey was the most popular car colour in 2020, with black and white taking second and third place, respectively. That’s nearly a quarter of new cars registered. Other colours on the top ten list included red, blue, and silver.
However, some companies have been particularly bold, with Germany going psychedelic. Here are some of the rarest car colours from the past year.

Using a highly specialised application process, Lexus have produced a beautiful, seven-layer pigment that replicated the iridescent blue of the Morpho butterfly, renowned for the deep, shimmering blue of its wings. However, the wings are actually colourless, the blue we see is created by light interference on their microscopic lattice surface structure. The same concept has been applied to the car. Where conventional paint reflects less than 50% of incoming light as visible blue colour, the level with Structural Blue is almost 100%. The process is so advanced that they can only paint two cars per day in this way. The colour was reserved for a special version of the LC Coupé.
