“With the third generation of the Audi RS 3 Sportback and the second generation of the Audi RS 3 Saloon, we now offer premium sports cars that are suitable for everyday use and equally thrilling to drive on public roads and racetracks,” says Sebastian Grams, Managing Director of Audi Sport GmbH. “They represent the entry point into our RS world and, thanks to the torque splitter, the ultimate in outstanding performance in the compact segment.”
The Audi RS 3 has a five-cylinder, high performance 2.5 TFSI engine which was won “International Engine of the Year”, nine times in a row. The engine is extremely powerful and develops 400PS and 500Nm of torque with a 0-62mph sprint in just 3.8 seconds. The standard RS 3 has a top speed of 155mph, but the Launch and Vorsprung models see a top speed of 174mph and 180mph with the RS Dynamic package and ceramic brakes. A new engine control unit is in place to increase the speed of which all the drive components communicate with one another. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission puts the power of the engine to the road, with shorter shifting times and a sportier gear ratio spread.
The new Audi RS 3 is the first Audi model to come with a torque splitter. The new technology makes controlled drifts on closed-off tracks possible – in this case, the torque splitter directs all of the power to only one of the rear wheels, with up to 1,750 newton meters per wheel possible. Audi even developed a driving mode specifically for the RS 3 for this purpose - “RS Torque Rear” as a drift mode with its own characteristic curve for the torque splitter.
The new Audi RS 3 is available in standard, Carbon, Launch Edition and Vorsprung specifications. The front Singleframe honeycomb grille and large air intakes provides the sports car with an expressive appearance. Standard wedge-shaped LED headlights and LED taillights. Matrix LED lights are available on the Carbon, Launch Edition and Vorsprung models with darkened bezels. The RS 3 has 19-inch cast wheels in a 10-Y spoke design as standard.
The 10.1-inch touch screen displays the coolant, engine and transmission oil temperatures as well as tyre pressures. The RS 3 includes a head-up display that projects information onto the windshield in the driver’s eye line. A three-spoke RS Sport multifunctional steering wheel with a flattened bottom now comes as standard for the RS 3.
