A glimpse of what's to come
The factory has released the first camouflaged photos and video of the new Amarok. They provide a glimpse of what’s to come!
Designed and conceived in Germany and Australia – and made in South Africa – the new Amarok will position itself once again at the top of the pick-up B segment with its hardy build, excellent specification and an array of driver-assist features. It will be at least 100mm longer than its predecessor and is set to offer more space in the double cab. The payload is also increasing to up to 1.2 tonnes, and a maximum towing capacity of 3.5 tonnes will be possible across a wide range of engine and gearbox variants.

The photos reveal smaller bodywork overhangs than the previous Amarok, which promises improved off-road capabilities and a much greater fording depth. Other visual clues include a firm and upright bonnet, bars across the radiator grille, narrow LED headlights and the characteristic half-round wheel arches seen on the previous model. There’s also a wide tailgate framed by LED rear lights.
The cabin is set to offer intuitive controls, a digital cockpit and a tablet-style infotainment display, along with elegant leather-look surfaces and distinctive decorative stitching.
The new Amarok will launch at the end of 2022 in the first few countries with a double cab and four doors, and in some markets with a two-door single cab. Specification and the launch timeline for UK models will be confirmed later this year.
For the new generation we have significantly modified the Amarok’s archetypal design,” says Albert Kirzinger, Head of Design at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. “It is now unambiguously more expressive and once again appreciably more impressive.”
