Lower viscosity oil = better fuel economy
Viscosity is a measure of the resistance of a fluid’s flow. The thicker (high viscosity) of an oil, the slower it will flow.
Low viscosity synthetic engine oil - such as Manufacturer approved oil - flows through the engine faster to get to where it’s needed more quickly, generating less friction than conventional mineral oil so the engine operates more efficiently.
With modern car engines only generating between 15 - 20% efficiency, losing up to 85% of the fuel’s energy to friction within the engine, rolling resistance from the wheels, braking and the gearbox, choosing an oil with lower viscosity will ensure you get the most out of your engine.
Benefits of synthetic oil
Your engine is a complex machine with hundreds of moving parts that operate under a wide range of temperatures, and the oil you select needs to be capable of coping with these operating conditions to protect your engine against wear, corrosion and engine longevity.
A synthetic lubricant contains more highly refined base oils than those used in conventional mineral oils, offering you superior protection and performance.
