Going on a long journey in 2021? Planning ahead can save you time, not only because your route is planned out in advance, but because you've checked that your vehicle is ready for the long journey ahead.
Mapping your route
Save time by planning your route ahead of time, as well as some alternatives. Familiarising yourself with the route and area you are travelling to can avoid any unnecessary delays, plus give you that little bit more confidence when on the road.
Top tip - navigation systems are brilliant in this scenario. Try putting in your destination the day before you leave, rather than on the day itself. That way, you can just drive and go.
Things to check
- Have you got enough fuel for the journey? Filling up before you leave gives you one less thing to think about.
- Is your vehicle packed? Try packing your boot in advance of your journey to save stress and time.
- What's the weather like? Keep an eye on the conditions before you leave. If heavy rain, sleet, snow or fog is forecast, adjust your schedule accordingly.
- Don't forget to check your vehicle before you go. Are your tyres ok? Are all of the necessary fluids topped up? Are there any warning lights on that shouldn't be? Making sure your vehicle is ready for a long journey will immediately alleviate some of the stress.
Unsure if you should travel? If in doubt, consider how necessary your journey is. Can someone else could drive if you're not feeling confident?
